Neenah Science Math Bowl a hit
Middle school competition to be annual
St. Mary Central High School, Neenah, hosted its premier SMC
Science Math Bowl for middle school teams on April 4.
This year, six teams competed: St. John, Fox Valley Christian
Academy, Horace Mann and three teams from Seton Catholic Middle
School. The SMC student math team members served as moderators
and timers and Michelle Jungbauer of the science faculty
coordinated the event.
"It was fun to watch the students work together to answer
questions, Jungbauer said. "They were elated when they answered
correctly. It was a great team-building experience for the
participants and for our SMC math and science team members."
The seventh grade team from Horace Mann won first place, Seton
Team #3 took second and Fox Valley Christian third. All
participants received a Science Math Bowl shirt. The awards
ceremony was accompanied by a pizza party.
"The SMC Science and Math students who participated in planning
and staffing this event were surprised and pleased at the
enthusiasm and excitement that these seventh graders demonstrated
in this academic contest," said Jim Murphy, SMC Science
Department Chair. "We look forward to hosting this event next
year."
