Forecasting an opportunity
Weather center names give wrong idea

Chambers of Commerce have a reputation of putting forward only a
positive image for their cities. Thus a city never has a problem or
even a challenge, but only possibilities or opportunities.
With that in mind, the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce has a great
opportunity awaiting it.
Say "Green Bay" to most people around the country and they think
Packers and frigid, snowy weather -- mainly because of nationally
televised football games where the announcer refers to the "frozen
tundra of Lambeau Field."
We residents hear that and wisely chuckle -- we know heating
coils keep the field from freezing or at least from freezing enough
to be called tundra.
But lately our TV stations have been leading an inside attack to
make us think we live in a land of miserable weather and here's
where the Chamber needs to step in. Consider: "Storm Center 2" at
WBAY or WFRV's "Storm Tracker," both of which bring to mind
tornadoes, lashing winds and rain and winter blizzards -- even
though we know better.
Then there's WGBA's "Weather Command Center." Now that we know
who's commanding the weather, we know whom to blame when the
weather goes bad.
