Cathedral seeks rosaries
Donations from Year of the Rosary Lent project will go to missions around the world
Parishes across the Green Bay Diocese are being invited to
collect rosaries and bring them to St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in
Green Bay for distribution around the world.
The Lenten Social Concerns Committee project recognizes 2003 as
"The Year of the Rosary," as proclaimed by Pope John Paul.
Last year, Cathedral parishioners donated 400-600 rosaries,
which were sent to Indonesia. This year the committee decided to
expand the effort to the entire diocese.
Committee members Carol Peterson, Sue Ristow, Evelyn Newman and
Charlie Doperalski asked each parish to place a box in the back of
church to collect the rosaries. The committee also will accept
pieces and broken rosaries (though they asked them to be placed in
separate containers), which will be repaired.
At the end of Lent, the collected rosaries are to be brought to
the cathedral so they can be distributed throughout the world.
