Appleton second graders create board game
Proceeds from sales will benefit pre-school in Jamaica
By Anne Farrey
Special to The Compass
APPLETON -- It all started when a few second graders said,
"Let's make a game."
So they did!
They brainstormed different happenings at St. Pius X School
during an average year. Then they came up with the "Falcon
Challenge" which is played similar to Monopoly.
The game involves counting money and making change. There is a
banker and 2-3 players. Some of the squares include: Snow Day, take
an extra turn; Book Fair, spend $2.50; Misbehaved During Gym Class,
pay $1.80; Helped Someone Clean Their Desk, receive 45¢.
Several adjustments had to be made including the size of the
game board, amount of cash to include, game pieces, and
presentation. Finally, the product was tested and advertised. It
was a learning experience for everyone.
The game sells for $8. Half the sales price will be used to
cover the cost of color printing, play money, and game pieces. The
remaining $4 will be donated to the school's "adopted" pre-school
in Jamaica. This idea came from the children!
