Three to receive diocesan awards
Honors will be given for the 15th year

Honoring them
What: Green Bay Diocese's 15th annual Gaudium et Spes
dinner.
Why: To honor this year's recipients of an award given to
persons who try to live their faith in the world in the spirit of
the Vatican II document, The Church in the Modern World.
Who: This year's honorees are Dennis Brennan of Oshkosh,
Marge Mattice of Kewaunee, and Allen Stade of Green Bay.
When: Social at 5:30 p.m.; dinner at 6:30 p.m. May 9.

Catholics from Green Bay, Kewaunee and Oshkosh will be honored
May 9 for their efforts to live in the spirit of the final major
document of the Second Vatican Council.
Bp. Robert Banks will present the Green Bay Diocese's 15th
annual Gaudium et Spes awards at Liberty Hall, 800 Eisenhower
Drive, Kimberly.
This year's recipients are:
Allen Stade of St. Joseph Parish, Green Bay. He is
being honored for his work with the poor. He serves on the board of
the Ft. Howard/Jefferson Family Resource Center in Green Bay and is
a regular prayer member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Perpetual
Adoration group. He is active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society,
Serra Club, Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus. He has been
active for many years in his parish and its ministries.
Marge Mattice of Holy Rosary Parish, Kewaunee. She is
being honored for her work to protect the unborn, elderly and those
on death row. Mattice is an emergency room nurse at St. Vincent
Hospital, Green Bay, where she serves on the trauma team and ethics
committee. She is a lay associate of St. Norbert Abbey, and a
member of both the abbey and diocesan Justice and Peace Committees.
She is a lector in her parish and works in the community on social
concerns and family life issues. She has volunteered three summers
at a program for underprivileged children in rural Mississippi.
Dennis Brennan of St. Raphael Parish, Oshkosh. He is
being honored for his work and dedication at Fr. Carr's Place 2B
and work with youth in the Oshkosh area. He has worked many years
as a volunteer with the poor and homeless, particularly with the
soup kitchen, community clinic and shelter that serve the area's
homeless. Brennan, who is originally from Manitowoc, moved to
Oshkosh to dedicate his life to those served by the programs Fr.
Carr started. He said he is accepting the award on behalf of all
Place 2B volunteers.
