Assignment ends
Bp. Robert Banks has removed Fr. Peter Taylor as the priest serving St.
Denis Parish in Shiocton and St. Patrick Parish in Stephensville.
The decision was made after Bp. Banks met with Fr. Taylor, who had
allowed Fr. John Feeney to stay at the rectory in Shiocton -- without
diocesan approval or knowledge -- while he was awaiting a court
appearance concerning charges of sexual abuse.
After parishioners notified Bp. Banks of the situation, he ordered Fr.
Feeney to leave the rectory. Fr. Feeney then returned to his home in
California.
A statement released by the diocese said Bp. Banks, after meeting with
Fr. Taylor "came to the conclusion that it would be best for the parish
communities in Shiocton and Stephensville and for Fr. Taylor if his time
of service at both parishes was ended."
Fr. Dennis Ryan, vicar for that part of the diocese, has been named
temporary administrator in charge of providing coverage for any
services. The diocese will assign a priest to take the weekend Masses at
both parishes.
