A Mass of farewell for Pittsburgh Auxiliary Bp. David Zubik, who on Oct. 10 was named Bishop of Green Bay, will be celebrated on the solemnity of Christ the King at noon Sunday,
Nov. 23, in St. Paul Cathedral, Pittsburgh.
Bp. Zubik served as vicar general and general secretary of the Pittsburgh Diocese in addition to auxiliary bishop. He will be installed Dec. 12 in Green Bay.
Bp. Donald Wuerl invited all the priests of the diocese to concelebrate the farewell Mass for Bp. Zubik.
The appointment of Bp. Zubik as bishop of Green Bay "is a cause of joy for all of us, especially his brother priests, who recognize in him wonderful priestly qualities, pastoral skills and a spirituality focused on the Good Shepherd," Bp. Wuerl wrote in a letter to
priests.
"While we truly rejoice with him because of this recognition, and as we celebrate with the people of the church in Green Bay because of the blessing he will be to them, we also recognize what a loss Bishop Zubik's departure will be to our local church," Bp. Wuerl said.
Bp. Wuerl asked the priests to invite their parishioners to attend the Mass "so that they may also have an opportunity to pray with Bp. Zubik and to extend their appreciation and
prayerful support to him."
Bp. Zubik, 54, called the appointment "a tremendous honor. I'm just so humbled by the Holy Father's trust, that he would ask me to become shepherd of a diocese the size of Green
Bay."
