New leader
Bp. David Zubik comes highly recommended and he wants to get to know all of us

After two months of waiting and anticipating - two appropriate states for Advent - the Church of Green Bay receives our new bishop Friday, Dec. 12.
Bp. David Zubik comes to us from Pittsburgh with extremely
positive marks from those who have known him and worked with him.
One employee of the Pittsburgh Diocese e-mailed to say how
fortunate we are. "He's a great guy," the writer said. "He was named an
auxiliary the weekend my mother died, but he was still the first one to contact
me. He's very pastoral."
The appointment came as a surprise to many in southwestern
Pennsylvania where he was expected to be named to lead the Diocese of
Greensburg, Pa., which has been waiting more than a year for the appointment of
a new bishop.
One person from that diocese e-mailed to say, "people in
Greensburg thought there had been huge mistake when your announcement
was made. Nearly everyone here expected Bp. Zubik to be the next Bishop of
Greensburg." One of the writer's co-workers added, "You lucky people."
A common theme from those who know say Bp. Zubik is a
pastoral person interested in and concerned about people.
For example, Mercy Sr. Ignatius Rooney, a special assistant
to the secretary for education, who has known Bp. Zubik for more than 20 years,
said, "I knew that I could go to him in any situation and that he would be
pastoral in his advice." He is approachable, she said, whether he's known
someone for years or is just meeting him. The Green Bay Diocese is "getting a
tremendous person who represents the church in the finest way."
He also is a
down-to-earth person. For example, he enjoys reading car magazines, going to
movies (usually with his mother) and is a self-confessed "newsaholic" who
enjoys both local and national TV news, reading three national news magazines a
week and America magazine, published by the Jesuits.
He also runs at least 30 minutes a day on his treadmill - and he likes popular music (in the 1960s and '70s he was a big fan of Motown Records and now leans toward Kenny G, Celine Dion, Yanni, John Tesh and Barbra Streisand, as well as Rosemary Clooney and Frank Sinatra.
He also is a prayerful person.
He says he wants to meet people all across the diocese and
he will begin doing that immediately. Take advantage of the opportunity -
either next week when he comes to a parish near you - or when he makes a
pastoral to visit your parish.
Welcome to Green Bay, Bp. Zubik. We look forward to working with you and getting to know you better.
