Often in our lives we are blessed with the opportunity to make a difference. When this involves our youth it is even more essential to say "yes" to God's call. Every teenager is a valuable member of society. They have many gifts and talents that are all too often overlooked. The youth of today will determine our tomorrows.

I have been assisting with the LifeTeen program at St. John Parish, Antigo, for nearly two years. During this time, I have had the opportunity to interact with the youth of today. I have heard people say that our youth are a "disgrace to society." I believe that our youth enlighten society. If you want to see passion, energy, intelligence or forgiveness, sit down and talk with a teenager. Their stories will make you laugh, weep and often leave you in awe.

Often in today's world we (examples for our youth) are too busy to sit down and really listen to what teens have to say. The youth of today simply want to be heard. They want to be told that their input does matter.

In October, I was fortunate enough to attend a LifeTeen conference in Mesa, AZ. On the trip, I attended a Mass at St. Timothy Church, where LifeTeen originated. As I sat in my chair, I was amazed at the energy inside the church. The people were very excited to be there. More than 300 youth gathered around the altar during the consecration of the body and blood. When I looked at them, I saw hunger. They were hungry for the Lord and they knew fully in their hearts that in just a few short moments, they would receive the greatest gift of all.

I firmly believe that LifeTeen does make a difference in the lives of our youth. This is a ministry with Christ at the center. Here, the truth is spoken and a sense of belonging is developed. Mother Teresa told us, "not to exclude anyone." All, young and old, are welcome to the LifeTeen Masses.

God has asked us to live as Christians and to be good examples for others. More than ever, we need to answer this call.
