Parishes throughout the Green Bay Diocese not only will be observing Eucharistic Day on Wednesday, Nov. 10, each vicariate will be joined by Bp. David Zubik over the coming year for a Eucharistic Day as part of the Year of the Eucharist declared by Pope John Paul.

In scheduling a Eucharistic Day in each of the diocese's 12 vicariates, Bp. Zubik asked that each day open with Mass celebrated by the region's vicar. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed throughout the day.

Each vicariate Eucharistic Day will close with a Holy Hour at 7 p.m. that Bp. Zubik will lead.

Here is the schedule for the vicariate Eucharistic Day celebrations:

• Monday, Nov. 8, Vicariate VI, St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay;

• Dec. 9, Vicariate IX, St. Aloysius Church, Kaukauna;

• Jan. 6, 2005, Vicariate V, St. Nicholas, Freedom;

• Feb. 24, 2005, Vicariate VIII, St. Patrick, Menasha;

• March 10, 2005, Vicariate X, St. Mary's, Omro;

• April 12, 2005, Vicariate III, Holy Cross, Lena;

• May 5, 2005, Vicariate I, St. Leonard, Laona;

• June 23, 2005, Vicariate II, St. Michael, Keshena;

• July 21, 2005, Vicariate IV, St. Joseph, Wautoma;

• Aug. 25, 2005, Vicariate VII, Corpus Christi, Sturgeon Bay;

• Sept. 22, 2005, Vicariate XI, St. Mary, Chilton;

• Oct. 13, 2005, Vicariate XII, Holy Innocents, Manitowoc.

The Year of the Eucharist proclaimed by Pope John Paul will close on Oct. 29.

Wednesday's diocesan Eucharistic Day was started several years ago by now retired Bp. Robert Banks as "a time of prayer and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament," said Diann Wimmer, diocesan director of worship.

Wimmer said the host is consecrated at Mass and "put before the people as a celebration of faith, an expression of devotion that may increase an awareness that the Lord listens and speaks to all who come to prayer."

Parishes will plan their own celebrations for next week's Eucharistic Day. At the diocesan offices, Mass will be celebrated and the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for private adoration for diocesan personnel from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
