Procession and Mass to close the Year of Eucharist on Oct. 29

Event set in central Green Bay

Eucharistic Day will be celebrated this year in the Green Bay Diocese on Oct. 29, as part of the closing of the Year of the Eucharist proclaimed by Pope John Paul II.

The Eucharistic Day celebration in the diocese will include all-day exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, followed at 2:30 p.m. by an outdoor Eucharistic procession. Bp. David Zubik will then celebrate Mass at 4 p.m. at the cathedral; the Mass will be broadcast live on Relevant Radio.

The procession will follow a route from the cathedral to St. Willebrord Church, to St. John the Evangelist Church and back to the cathedral. The procession will stop at each church for prayers and veneration. Mass also will be offered at the other two churches at 4 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, there will be a Holy Hour in the cathedral instead of the procession.

Bp. Zubik asked all parishes and faith communities in the diocese to observe the closing of the Year of the Eucharist on Oct. 29.

Pope John Paul led the universal church in the starting of the Year of the Eucharist just a year ago. During most of October, some 250 bishops from around the world are meeting at the Vatican at a synod on the Eucharist.
