What do you do every year, without fail, on Christmas?

For many children, it's just the same as many of us remember from our childhoods - family gatherings, church, carols, the tree, food, games and, of course, presents.

Each year, The Compass asks children, in fifth grade and under, to take part in our "Just for Kids" Christmas essay project. In this 18th year of the project, we asked children to write about Christmas Eve traditions.

We heard from 307 children - both individuals and students in Catholic schools and religious education programs across the diocese - about Christmas Eve (and Day) in their families. A total of 27 classes took part in the essay project.
