Bishop Zubik's mother dies

Funeral plans

Visitation in the Resurrection Chapel at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral Church, Green Bay, will be from 2 p.m. until the Mass of the Resurrection at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19.

On Friday, Jan. 20, Mrs. Zubik's body will be returned to Pennsylvania. There will be visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit, 5246 Clarwin Ave., Pittsburgh. The evening will conclude with a vigil service.

Visitation will continue Saturday from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the Motherhouse of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit.

Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Christ Our Savior in Holy Savior Cemetery, Richland Township, Pa. Walter Kasper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Pittsburgh.

Susan M. Zubik, 80, Green Bay, - the mother of Green Bay Bp. David Zubik - died Monday, Jan. 16, of cancer at a Green Bay hospital.

Mrs. Zubik was born in Ambridge, Pa., where she lived until moving to Green Bay two years ago after her son became bishop.

She was born Feb. 26, 1925, to the late John and Susan (Podhorin) Raskosky. She and Stanley Zubik were married on Jan. 22, 1949, at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church in Ambridge.

She was a longtime member of Good Samaritan Parish in Ambridge and, since moving to Green Bay, was a member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. She was a dedicated wife and mother and an avid Pittsburgh Steeler Fan.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley Zubik of Green Bay; a son, Most Rev. David A. Zubik of Green Bay; a sister, Anne Raskosky of Ambridge; a brother, John (Viola) Raskosky of Sun City, Calif.; nieces and nephews.

Her special friends include, Sr. Anne Green, CSJ, of Ambridge; Dr. James "Skip" and Bernie McGovern of Green Bay; Sr. Mary Jo Kirt, OSF, of Hortonville; and Dcn. Michael, Doris, and Katie Vincent of Green Bay.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant brothers.

The Zubik family extended special thanks to Mrs. Zubik's loyal friends in Green Bay and Pittsburgh, and to the doctors and medical staff at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay Oncology, Ltd., and Cancer Center Radiation Oncology.
