Dcn. Timothy Reilly, director of Administration for the Green Bay Diocese, said on Oct. 20 that the Diocesan Board of Catholic Education has been asked to review the case of the former principal of St. Nicholas School, Freedom.
"The diocese's intention is to ensure that every option has been pursued in evaluating the key matters and decisions in this case," Dcn. Reilly said. "The Diocesan Board of Catholic Education is composed of 17 voting members from across the diocese so they will bring a good degree of objectivity to the evaluation of this matter."
Mrs. Techlin's employment with the school ended on Oct. 13. The decision was made by Fr. John Schuetze, pastor, in consultation with the diocesan Department of Education and legal counsel. Diocesan bylaws call for the consultation to be made with the president of the local school board, but because of extenuating circumstances Fr. Schuetze advised others of his decision.
"Realizing the uniqueness of the case, we, the diocese, wanted to extend our process beyond the normal procedures and give this matter another look through fresh sets of eyes," Dcn. Reilly said.
"That's the role the Diocesan Board of Catholic Education will have. We will abide by the Diocesan Board of Education's decision, which, according to diocesan policy, has the final say in this matter."
The case is expected to be heard by the end of October, and a decision is expected the same day.
Further details about the case are not being disclosed by the diocese since, as an employer, it is legally bound to respect the privacy of the individual and treat personnel matters confidentially.
