Catholic Press Month

It's time again to ponder this ministry

By Tony Staley
Compass Editor

Catholic Press Month has begun. This annual February observance calls those of us engaged in this ministry through Catholic newspapers, magazines, newsletters, books, websites and news services to reflect on what we do and to invite you, our readers, to do the same.

As Abp. George Neiderauer of San Francisco, chair of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Communications and honorary president of the Catholic Press Association, noted in a statement, Catholic publications "shine the light of faith in Christ on the lives of those who read them. These invaluable resources help Catholics see the world around them from a faith perspective."

Abp. Neiderauer went on to say, "All the junk food isn't sold in fast-food restaurants. There is plenty of junk food for the eyes and the ears, for the mind, the imagination and the memory. The Catholic press offers a steady diet of spiritually healthful and nutritious information, knowledge, understanding and wisdom."

We thank you for your support. Without you reading what we do, Catholic Press Month would mean nothing.
