Bp. Zubik calls on Catholics to pray
for Virginia Tech victims, survivors

'We can conquer evil with the good of our prayers to God'

GREEN BAY -- Bp. David Zubik released the following statement:

"The tragic events at Virginia Tech University call all of us to pause and pray - for the victims, for their families, for the university community, for the shooter and for all of us - members of God's family.

"It is difficult to make sense of this tragedy but I am reminded of a passage from Paul's letter to the Romans (chapter 12:21) which says, 'Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good.' These are painful and confusing days. We can live our faith by the words we speak and the deeds we do.

"During these days of mourning and healing from a tragedy of this magnitude we can conquer evil with the good of our prayers to God and our prayers for one another. That is why, as shepherd of the Church of Green Bay, I call upon all of our faithful who will gather together for Mass this weekend to observe some public expression of prayer for all who are involved."
