The last monstrance blessed by Pope John Paul II for the purpose of Adoration for Vocations will be in the Diocese of Green Bay from Aug. 10 through Sept. 2 (see schedule at right).
The monstrance will be received at a special Opening Prayer Service of Eucharistic Adoration, 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. Bp. David Zubik will lead the service. All are invited to gather for this prayer for vocations.
The monstrance will also be utilized by Bp. Zubik at the outdoor Mass and rosary procession for the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This annual event will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Robinsonville, which is northeast of Green Bay near Champion. Typically, 3,000 people attend this annual event but crowds are expected to be higher because of the presence of the monstrance.
The monstrance that will be in the diocese was blessed by the Holy Father on Easter, March 27, 2005, and is dedicated to the church's vocational efforts. The traveling Monstrance Program was created to foster adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Adoration for Vocations. In November of 2004, Pope John Paul II had initiated a worldwide effort of adoration for vocations, utilizing monstrances that he blessed for that purpose. The program is directed by the Rosary Evangelization Apostolate in Milwaukee under the direction of Abp. Timothy Dolan.
