Faith Alive steering committee selected

Diocese announces inaugural meeting

Dr. Joseph Bound, director of Education for the Diocese, has announced the selection of the Faith Alive Education Steering Committee and set the inaugural meeting for Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Members on the Education Steering Committee include priests, principals, religious education directors, parish business managers and parents.

"Throughout the selection process we made every effort to ensure that the committee is comprised of dedicated, faith-filled individuals who can collaborate on this exciting initiative and are truly a microcosm of the constituencies that they serve," said Mark Salisbury, diocesan Superintendent of Schools. "I believe we have succeeded in that objective."

At the inaugural meeting, committee members will set goals and timelines for this year's initiatives, schedule meetings, and develop a structure for the subcommittees that will develop action plans for specific areas of the project.

According to Bound, communication with the public will be critical in the upcoming year.

"Clear, timely communication to various stakeholder groups is essential to the success of this initiative," he said. "We recognize the importance that parents, teachers, parishioners, and other interested parties place on the ongoing health and vitality of our Catholic school system. For that reason, the Department of Education along with the Faith Alive Education Steering Committee pledge to keep open the channels of communication during this process."

Questions regarding the process may be directed to FaithAlive@gbdioc.org.

Announced in January by Bp. David Zubik, Faith Alive is a two-part collaborative initiative involving all 23 parishes in greater Green Bay. The education component will address the needs of 2,600 students in 11 area elementary schools. This includes plans to create a local Catholic school system, set to be fully operational no later than the 2012-2013 school year.

The other component - collaborative ministry - focuses on improving the delivery of various ministries among the 23 parishes. Announcement of the Faith Alive Collaborative Ministry Committee will be made later this summer.
