Pack plays again for Charities

Before the game, fans will have a chance to greet Bp. Zubik in lot

Next week's Bishop's Charities Game will mark the 47th annual in the series, which was started in 1961 by Vince Lombardi and Bp. Stanislaus Bona.

This year, the Packers will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Lambeau Field.

In the 2006 Bishop's Charities Game, the Tennessee Titans defeated Green Bay 35-21. Overall, the Packers are 24-21-1 in Charities contests.

The game has raised approximately $3.25 million for Green Bay diocesan charities. Catholic Charities of the Green Bay Diocese provides budget counseling (see related story on p. 7 of print edition); individual and family counseling; adoption services; general and social services, including mental health and domestic abuse; outreach to Hispanics and resettlement of refugees; Catholic health services. It also operates the McCormick Memorial Home. It has offices in Appleton, Green Bay, Oshkosh, Manitowoc, Marinette, Sturgeon Bay, Waupaca and Wautoma.

Bp. David Zubik will take part in pre-game festivities on the field. The Compass and the diocesan departments of Vocations, Education, and Evangelization & Worship invite fans to the visit with Bp. Zubik prior to the game in the Lambeau Field parking lot near the Oneida Nation Gate on the southeast side of the stadium.

The bishop will be available for photos from 4 to 6 p.m.
