ALLOUEZ -- The Diocese of Green Bay is asking people to help support St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter in Green Bay in any of the following ways: volunteer at the shelter; donate items; or provide financial support.

To learn more about volunteering or to sign up for a shift, please contact Laura Robinson, volunteer coordinator, at (920) 347-0828. As a backup, people may call Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Green Bay at 920-272-8234.

Clients at the shelter need toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, soap and toilet paper. Hotel or sample-size toiletries work well and are welcomed. Also needed are blankets, bath towels, and clothing (mostly men's) such as winter coats, boots, gloves and hats as well as socks, new underwear and clothing. The facility needs garbage bags, kitchen and bathroom cleaning supplies.

These items may be dropped off at the rectory of St. John the Evangelist Parish, 413 Saint John St.

Monetary donations will help pay for heat, electricity, supplies and professional staff. Checks may be issued to "St. John the Evangelist Parish" and sent to the address above or issued to "Diocese of Green Bay" and sent to c/o Finance and Accounting, PO Box 23825, Green Bay, WI 54305-3825. In the memo field of the check, please note "St. John homeless shelter."

In addition, those who live in Green Bay are asked to call their alderperson and express support for the homeless shelter.
