"Just for Kids" Christmas essays
More than 400 students offer advice for the Baby Jesus
By Patricia Kasten
Compass Associate Editor
What would you say to Baby Jesus?
Would you tell him about his future? Would you warn him to be careful? Would you tell him to obey his parents?
Each year, The Compass asks children, in fifth grade and under, to participate in our "Just for Kids" Christmas essay project. Every year, individual children, as well as students in Catholic schools and religious education programs, send essays. Their perspectives add to our celebration of the Incarnation.
This year, is our 20th annual "Just for Kids" contest. We posed this scenario:

If you could go back in time to Bethlehem, what advice would you give the baby Jesus? What would you whisper in his ear?
We heard from 447 children - both individual children and students in school classes and religious education programs across the diocese.
These are the children's responses. Minimal editing has been done to preserve the unique voice of the children - so some spelling and grammar errors remain.
All the children will receive a Culvers gift certificate for their efforts.
(Listed first are letters sent in by individual children, followed by essays from students in various class settings.)
