Replica of Shroud of Turin comes to Marinette Feb. 23

MARINETTE -- Holy Family will host a one-day exhibition featuring a replica of the Shroud of Turin on Saturday, Feb. 23, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., in the Parish Center, 2715 Taylor St.

The shroud is thought to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ. The actual shroud is encased in a secure vault in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, Italy. This informative exhibit displays a replica of the shroud and details the scientific research conducted over the last 100 years.

Two presentations will be offered on Saturday by Tony Cherniawski, a member of the Knights of Columbus who is transporting the exhibition to Marinette. Cherniawski has been lecturing on and presenting the shroud exhibit since 1995. He will present two distinctly different presentations, one at 1 p.m. and one at 5:15 p.m. The presentations will address the shroud and the Bible, Old and New Testaments, beginning with Genesis 12; the visual impact of the shroud; and the history of the shroud.

Also available during the exhibition will be the video "The Silent Witness." The DVD's are $25; VHS copies are $20. All funds raised from the sale videos will be given to the Fr. Solanus Casey Chapter 11276 of the Knights of Columbus, Fort Wayne, Ind.

The exhibit is sponsored by God the Father Perpetual Adoration Chapel (located at 2735 Taylor Street) in celebration of their eighth anniversary. The shroud display is a traveling ministry of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Solanus Casey Chapter, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Light refreshments will be served. There is no cost for viewing the exhibit. Freewill offerings will be accepted at each presentation.
