Culled from the pages of other diocesan newspapers:

The Catholic New World of Chicago: In her “Church Clips” column, Dolores Madlener reports that actress Joan Cusack will be honored at the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women’s fall luncheon Oct. 24.

Cusack, whose film credits include School of Rock (2003), Raising Helen (2004) and My Sister’s Keeper (2009), will be honored as the ACCW’s first “Outstanding Catholic Woman of the Year.” She is a member of Old St. Patrick’s Parish in Des Plaines.

The New World’s Sept. 27-Oct. 10 issue is also marking the 30th anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s visit to Chicago. A cover photo and a center-spread feature by assistant editor Michelle Martin celebrate the historic visit.

The Visitor of St. Cloud, Minn.: Staff writer Sue Schulzetenberg writes that the Crosier religious order commemorated their 800th anniversary and their 100th anniversary in the United State on Sept. 13. A Mass attended by about 850 people at St. Mary’s Cathedral marked the historic occasion. The Crosiers have their U.S. headquarters in Phoenix, but have been in Minnesota since 1909.

The Catholic Spirit of St. Paul and Minneapolis: In a special section Sept. 10, the archdiocesan newspaper honored 15 business people who are guided by their Catholic values. It is the eighth year that the newspaper has honored members of the business community with the “Leading With Faith” recognition. Nominees, who work in fields such as financial advising and automotive repair to parish social justice ministry and computer support consulting, follow business practices that “reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ and the church.”

The Catholic Herald, Superior, Wis.: For the first time in 17 years, the Superior diocesan newspaper has a new look. Managing editor Megan Miller announced the changes in the Sept. 17 edition.
