Dust off that Christmas keepsake

“This hand-painted and hand blown glass Shiny-Brite ornament dates back to the 1930s and was inherited from my grandmother. It is special because it links me with my heritage and their strong Catholic and family values and glistens with memories of large family get-togethers at my grandparents’ restaurant and rooming house, filled with a spirit of giving, laughter and song.” — Mari Catherine Martin (Rick Evans | For The Compass)

This year we ask readers to take a digital photo of their most precious Christmas tree ornament. In a brief description of the ornament, tell us what makes it so special. (See photo and caption at right.)

During the weeks of Advent we will choose one photo to publish in The Compass. At Christmas, we will take all of the submitted photos and assemble them in an audio slide show to post on our Web site, www.the compassnews.org.

So dig through your cherished ornaments; hang one on a tree (or elsewhere if you choose) and take a photo. Remember to set your digital camera to its highest quality or resolution. Then e-mail it to: [email protected] Write “Compass Christmas Ornament” in the subject area of your e-mail program. Submit just one photo per family, please.

Help us remember that the Advent season is a time of memories, anticipation and prayer that slowly and quietly builds to the glory of Christmas.
