Fall Season Success

This week’s issue (11/13) features a story about Elissa Halla and Natalie Foster, the two-time Division 2 State Doubles Champions from Roncalli High School in Manitowoc. Several teams from diocesan high schools enjoyed successful fall seasons.
Notre Dame Academy (Green Bay) won its second consecutive Division 2 State Team Tennis Championship with a 5 to 2 victory over University School in the finals. The Tritons finished the season undefeated. Doubles team Mary Catherine Faller and Karie Williams finished second behind Halla and Foster at the individual state meet at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
The Xavier girls volleyball team (Appleton) finished second in state in Division 2. The Hawks were defeated by Catholic Memorial of Waukesha in the finals at the Resch Center in Green Bay. Xavier finished its season at 35-10.
Both the Oshkosh Lourdes girls and boys cross country teams placed in the top ten at the state meet, Oct. 31 at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. The girls finished fifth in the Division 3 field, while the boys took ninth place.
Lena/ St. Thomas Aquinas, Oshkosh Lourdes/ Valley Christian, Xavier, Roncalli and Notre Dame all earned WIAA playoff berths. Xavier finished 8-1 in the eastern valley Conference and advanced to the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Roncalli and Notre Dame both won first round playoff games.
