Easter in October. “God won!”

I doubt it has escaped many people, the coming forth of life from the tomb in Chile. As the youngest of the 33 freed miners, 19-year-old Jimmy Sanchez, said in a letter while still underground: “There are actually 34 of us, because God has never left us down here.” Upon arriving into daylight he thought he might never see again, 40-year-old Mario Sepulveda said: “I’ve was with God, and I was with the devil. …. God won.”

Jesus raised Lazarus from the tomb, not long before his own death. The Lord was also present in Chile, at what first seemed like a tomb for those miners and their families 70 days ago. We have witnessed a miracle – in more ways than one. And many, many people deserve thanks, credit and congratulations. And at the top of the list, as many of the miners showed as they fell to their knees and prayed, is God. God won. The Lord of Life triumphed over death in Chile. 33 Lazaruses walk in the sun today because of God’s grace.
