Priest’s new book offers practical guide to faith

To answer questions today’s Catholics — and others interested in the Catholic Church — ask, Fr. John Girotti, rector of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, has written a book on these and many other topics. Due for publication this spring, “A Shepherd Tends His Flock” addresses issues ranging from morality to church practices, and to the similarities and differences between Catholicism and other faiths — all in a straightforward style with just a touch of humor.

“This book fills an important need to explain the Catholic faith in a simple, down-to-earth manner,” said Bishop David L. Ricken. “These pages are encouraging, and sometimes challenging, as they point out to us the road to follow Christ with the help of his love, grace and mercy.”

In his book, Fr. Girotti tackles subjects ranging from a lighthearted look at the animals we might like to meet in heaven — dogs, yes, mosquitoes, no — to tougher issues ranging from sin to damnation and sexual morality.

“A Shepherd Tends His Flock” will be published by Tau Publishing of Phoenix, Ariz. (www.TauPublishing.com). To get copies of the book, contact the diocesan Department of Education at [email protected] or call (920) 437-7531, ext. 8309.
