‘Shower Curtain Showdown’ collects curtains for Father Carr’s Place 2B

By | July 13, 2011

The novel promotion is billed as the “Shower Curtain Showdown” and is pitting Deacon Coenen against Danke for the largest collection of shower curtains. On July 31, the two rivals, dressed in “shower attire,” will gather in the parking lot of Danke’s restaurant and count their collections. The winner will douse the loser with water in a makeshift shower. The contest is the highlight of an afternoon of entertainment and music. Pizza and kosher hot dogs will be sold to help raise money for Angels Community Clothes Closet and Loaves and Fishes Ecumenical Food Pantry.

According to Deacon Coenen, the idea of collecting shower curtains for Father Carr’s Place 2B came while on a pilgrimage to Italy in early May. Deacon Coenen and Joe and Christine Geniesse were among the pilgrims traveling with Bishop Robert Banks on a pilgrimage sponsored by The Compass.

While on the tour bus in Italy, Deacon Coenen asked Joe Geniesse what people could do to help the Oshkosh shelter. “The great need for replacing over 150 shower curtains was brought to the surface,” he said. Upon his return home, Deacon Coenen contacted Danke and they conceived the idea of a shower curtain showdown.

The event is open to the public. For more information contact Danke at Memories on Main Restaurant, (920) 525-4120, or Deacon Coenen at St. Lawrence Church, (715) 758-8161.
