The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority wants to ban obscene words from text messages. The BBC and Catholic News Service both confirmed on Nov. 22 that the PTA has sent out a list of more than 1,000 words in English and Urdu, the national language of Pakistan, that is considers obscene. The PTA claims that citizens have been complaining about receiving obscene text messages. However, among the banned words is the name of “Jesus Christ.” After an immediate outcry, the PTA said it will review and shorten the list before asking cell phone carriers to implement it.
