The winds were so strong that at one point they blew over a metal stand that was holding a glass bowl with holy water inside. The pieces of broken glass were quickly picked up and the ceremony continued.

“Wow, that was a powerful sign,” said Fr. Felton, looking up to the sky, drawing a collective chuckle from the gathered crowd of about 70 people, comprised of students, college administrators, members of the public and more than a dozen Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.

The state-of-the-art facility will provide practice and performance space for the Silver Lake College music program and the Holy Family Conservatory of Music. There will be a performance hall, recital hall, classrooms, practice rooms, music studios and areas for special events.

“We’re terribly excited about what this will bring to the college,” said Silver Lake College president Dr. George Arnold. “We see it as an opportunity to have a wonderful educational facility that’s elegant and simple at the same time.”

A formal ground breaking is scheduled for June, with the project expected to be finished in the summer of 2013.
