Peace to you my young friends,
The season of Lent is upon us. On Ash Wednesday we received a very visible sign on our forehead marking the beginning of our journey to Easter. These 40 days of Lent give us a special time for reflection on how we can grow our relationship with Jesus Christ.
We have been talking about our relationship with Jesus over the last two months and Lent gives us a perfect opportunity to put our thoughts on this into practice. Three things that we do as Christians during Lent are pray, fast and give alms. These are tools we use to strengthen our relationship with Jesus.
Last month we were working on our Valentine to Jesus, which is really a prayer. Continue to work on that prayer by reading it and adding lines each day. When it comes to fasting, we think of giving up something, or maybe not eating a meat on Fridays. But our real goal should be turning away from sin and toward Jesus Christ. Stop a bad habit not just for Lent, but for good.
Finally, during Lent we give alms. What exactly does that mean for young people like you? In its simplest terms, it means giving assistance to others through money or by reaching out to help without question, as a way of sharing the experience of God’s unconditional love.
Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. He gave his life for us. What will you do to show Jesus your unconditional love?
God bless you on your journey to Easter. May the peace of Christ live in you and those you love!
