Bishop Ricken to ordain Deacon Looney to priesthood, Thiel to diaconate on June 6

GREEN BAY — Bishop David Ricken will ordain Deacon Edward Looney to the priesthood and Michael Thiel to the diaconate at the Mass of ordination, 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 140 S. Monroe Ave.

Deacon Looney of Holy Trinity Parish, Oconto, recently graduated from Mundelein Seminary at University of St. Mary of the Lake in Illinois. Thiel of St. Raphael the Archangel Parish, Oshkosh, attends St. Francis de Sales Seminary in St. Francis, a Milwaukee suburb.

Deacon Looney will officially become a priest following the laying on of hands and the prayer of consecration. Bishop Ricken will present him with a chalice and paten to signify the centrality of the Eucharist in his ministry.

Thiel is scheduled to be ordained to the priesthood in 2016.
