Congratulations to all the spring sports teams and athletes who captured conference titles and earned trips to state. Three championship squads represented Catholic high schools from the Diocese of Green Bay.
The St. Mary Catholic boys’ baseball team, Neenah/Menasha, achieved perfection this season. The Zephyrs finished 26-0 after defeating Prairie du Chien 5-1 in the WIAA Division 3 title game, June 16, at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute. Mack Blashka gave up only three hits in a complete game effort on the mound. Center fielder Tyler Nelson paced the offensive attack with three hits.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team from Lourdes Academy in Oshkosh won gold in Division 3 at the state meet in La Crosse. Katie Van Scyoc, Angela Moore, Carly Vandenhouten and Emily Foley posted a winning time of 9:43.92 to take the top spot on the medal stand.
The doubles tennis team of Charlie Parish and Isaac Hingtgen of Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay capped their senior season with a Division 2 state championship. The duo came back after dropping the first set to defeat the tournament’s top seed from University School of Milwaukee winning 6-2 and 6-4 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
When the fall athletic seasons begin, I will be looking for prep sports stories for Compass on Campus. Please email story suggestions to [email protected].
