Serra Club sponsors kids’ essay contest

GREEN BAY — The Serra Club of Green Bay invites Catholic school and homeschool students in grades 7-8 to participate in its 2017 essay contest. Student writers are asked to address the topic “Healthy, Godly Families Create Healthy, Godly Vocations.”

Essays must be at least 450 words and not more than 1,000 words. Text should be typed — 11 point, Times New Roman — and double-spaced.

Sources, if used, must be cited in footnotes or endnotes and a bibliography. Wikipedia may not be used as a primary reference. Essays that are suspected of plagiarism will not be considered.

The following information must be listed at the top of each entry:

  • Student name
  • Address and phone number
  • Name of school (or list homeschool)
  • School address
  • Principal’s name

Contest information has been provided to GRACE (Green Bay Area Catholic Education) schools and surrounding Catholic schools in northeast Wisconsin. English or religion teachers are asked to select one winner and one runner-up for submission.

The overall first place winner, selected by a panel of judges, will receive $100 and the opportunity to read the top essay at the Serra meeting/Bishop’s Burse, May 23, in Green Bay. Parents and siblings will also be invited to the event. The second place winner will receive $50.
