Hello brothers and sisters,
Happy summer to you all! I hope you are enjoying this time off from school. It is a time to rest, re-energize and spend time with family and friends. Summer goes quickly, but there is still time for you to do something that’s faith-filled, educational and above all FUN!
Did you know that we are fortunate in the Diocese of Green Bay to have a camp geared to our youth? It’s called Camp Tekakwitha, and it is located in the middle of our diocese on Loon Lake in Shawano County.
Camp Tekakwitha began as a Catholic Girls Camp back in 1926. It has seen many changes over the years: new buildings, a move to a co-ed environment, name changes and the addition of year-round camps and retreats. What has not changed is Camp Tekakwitha’s commitment to helping youth discover their gifts and helping them grow in their spirituality by enjoying an environment of faith, friends and fun.
Each day begins and ends with prayer. Campers experience great praise and worship music, living Stations of the Cross, and Mass. There are opportunities during the week for adoration and the rosary.
When it comes to fun, Camp Tekakwitha provides sailing, canoeing, kayaking, archery, jokes, songs, stories, campfires, s’mores, swimming, running, night hikes, tag, soccer, kickball, tennis and the list goes on. And that’s just the first day. It is an exceptional experience for the youth of our diocese to keep connected to their faith life in a fun way. Just one week at camp can lead to the creation of lifelong friendships.
Camp sessions are underway now, and it is not too late to look into becoming a camper yourself, or to train to become a camp counselor. For more information on Camp Tekakwitha or to register, visit the camp website at www.camptekakwitha.org/#/summer-camp/ and click on one of the four boxes at the top for age specific camp dates for the remainder of the summer.
May God bless you and keep you active and safe the remainder of the summer!
