‘Missionaries of Hope’

Bishop Ricken

In 1 Corinthians, we hear how love never fails. Love is patient and kind. In a world full of turmoil, we must remember love always prevails. As “Missionaries of Hope,” we are called to be people of faith, helping one another grow in our love for Jesus and one another.

In our diocese, I see many beautiful examples of people serving as Missionaries of Hope.

Much of this work is happening in our parishes, Catholic schools and through the ministries of the diocese. Your generous gift to the Bishop’s Appeal helps make this happen. You impact thousands of people by restoring hope and helping them discover, follow, worship and share Jesus.

Through your support of the Bishop’s Appeal, you helped Deacon Todd Raether receive the training to share the Gospel with students at Sacred Heart Parish and School in Shawano. Last spring, I had the pleasure of ordaining Todd as a deacon. For more than 30 years, Deacon Todd has been teaching faith formation and helping our youth understand how much God loves them and has great plans for their lives. Students know they can count on Deacon Todd for guidance as they make serious life choices. Through his work with faith formation students, Deacon Todd realized he wanted to grow even deeper in his faith. He heard God calling him to become a deacon so he could share the Good News with people of all ages and help them build life-long relationships with Jesus.

Please consider making your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal to support our faith formation educators and deacons. Whatever gift you are able to give is greatly appreciated and needed. You help students and other people throughout northeastern Wisconsin embrace a life of discipleship. This happens in many different ways through the ministries of the diocese.

One way is through Care Ministry in our parishes. This ministry brings holy Communion and friendship to people who are sick and homebound. As the care ministers share the love of Jesus, they also keep these people connected to their parish. You make this and so much more happen in our communities.

Your support of the Bishop’s Appeal helps restore hope. For Ginny, after a sudden loss of income, her hope was restored through the financial health programs of Catholic Charities. She and her family would have been living out of their car or living on the streets if not for the financial counseling she received at Catholic Charities. Not only does Catholic Charities help families in financial crisis, its ministries help families with adoption services, mental health counseling and drug and alcohol addictions.

These are just a few examples of Missionaries of Hope in action. When we act with the love of Jesus, we build strong, faith-filled communities. Love never fails. Please know your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal is only used to support the ministries of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay.
