Community groups around diocese are offering free Thanksgiving Day meals

ALLOUEZ — This year Thanksgiving Day falls the latest it can, on Nov. 28. Since not everyone has a place to go to celebrate the holiday, many area groups sponsor free Thanksgiving dinners open to everyone. Below are listings offered on Thanksgiving Day, unless otherwise noted.

APPLETON: The Grand Meridian., 2621 N. Oneida St. (new location), will be the site of a dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. hosted by Christ the Rock Community Church. Home deliveries and transportation are available. Call the church, (920) 730-8383, for deliveries, transport or to volunteer, or visit christtherock.org to sign up. Donations may be dropped at the church at W6254 U.S. Highway 10-114, Menasha. All requests for meal delivery and transportation must be made by noon on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

CHILTON: The 37th Thanksgiving Day Express, sponsored by area fire departments, will deliver noon meals in Calumet County and some areas of Manitowoc only. For a delivery, call the Eagles Club at (920) 849-9223. Volunteers are needed on Thanksgiving Day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Eagles Club, 1041 E. Chestnut St. Pumpkin pie donations are also welcome; deliver to the Eagles Club by Nov. 26 and 27, any time after 4 p.m. both days.

CLINTONVILLE: The Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Loerke Council 1922, will sponsor their 42nd annual family-style dinner at 11:30 a.m. at the Clintonville Community Center, 30 S. Main St. Freewill offerings accepted. Reservations for carryouts (no earlier than noon) are requested by Nov. 22: Call Dick or Jeanne Writt at (715) 823-6477. Volunteers needed for all aspects of the event — food preparation, set up, serving and cleanup. Call Writt or Rick Rauterkus (715) 250-0262 to volunteer. Donations of homemade pies are also welcome.

CRIVITZ: Northwood’s Apostolic Church will host its fourth annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Crivitz Town Hall, 800 Henriette Ave. Local deliveries to the village of Crivitz are available. To sign up or volunteer, call Jessica, event coordinator, at (715) 938-4934.

DENMARK: Denmark Public High School, 450 N. Wall St., will be the site of a community meal, sponsored by an ecumenical group of churches, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Local deliveries are available. To make reservations, call (920) 863-2384 by to Nov. 22.

FREEDOM/ COMBINED LOCKS: Rico’s Family Restaurant at N3994 Columbia Ave. in Freedom and 427 W. Washington St. in Combined Locks will host free dinners from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. No reservations (except for large groups) needed, but volunteers are welcome. Call (920) 687-9170 or (920) 423-3204. (Not held at the Kaukauna or Appleton locations.)

FREMONT (Wisconsin): Hope United Church of Christ will host their turkey dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Carryouts available. The church is at 8950 Alpine Road (three miles south on County H). Volunteers welcome. Call the church at (920) 446-2952.

GILLETT: (Note date.) Hillside Assembly of God, 5890 State Highway 22, will host its 26th annual Community Thanksgiving Eve Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 27, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Deliveries (local area only) available. Call the church at (920) 855-2962 for more information or to volunteer.

GREEN BAY: Christian Outreach Ecumenical Thanksgiving Ministry will host dinner at Lambeau Field’s Atrium for those in need or alone on the holiday. An ecumenical prayer service will start at 11 a.m., with dinner from noon to 1 p.m. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. Seating is limited and reservations are “first come, first served.” For reservations or meal delivery, call (920) 490-7030. GREEN BAY: New Community Shelter, 301 Mather St., will host both a turkey dinner (11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and supper (5 to 6 p.m.). No reservations needed.

HORTONVILLE: SS. Peter and Paul Parish, 107 N. Olk St., will sponsor dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parish gym. Reservations not required. Carryouts available. For a meal delivery, in the Hortonville area only, call the parish by noon Nov. 27 at (920) 779-6133.

KESHENA: St. Michael Church, N816 Hwy. 47/55, will be the site of 18th annual Knights of Columbus Kateri Tekakwitha Council dinner from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local deliveries available for those who cannot drive in. LUXEMBURG: St. John Lutheran, 700 Heritage Road, will host its 11th annual nondenominational “Friends for Thanksgiving” dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

MARINETTE: Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1600 University Drive (Pierce and University), will host its annual Community Meal from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. No reservations needed. To volunteer or make donations, call the church at (715) 735-3101.

MENASHA: (Note date.) Saturday, Nov. 23, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Community Thanksgiving Dinner at St. Mary Parish Hall, 528 Second St. Sponsored by St. Mary and St. John Parishes. NEW LONDON: The 23rd annual free ecumenical Thanksgiving dinner will be held at United Methodist Church, 709 W. Pine St. Local churches, including Most Precious Blood Parish and St. Patrick Parish in Lebanon, sponsor this 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. meal. No reservations needed; call United Methodist at (920) 982-4703.

OSHKOSH: Father Carr’s Place 2B will host its 44th annual “Bread for Others” Thanksgiving Day dinner from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Mother Teresa Wellness Center, 1062 N. Koeller St. The Thanksgiving Day meal program includes meal delivery to people who are homebound between 11 a.m. and noon. TWO RIVERS: The J.E. Hamilton Community House, 1520 17th St., will be the site of the annual Community Thanksgiving Family style Dinner at noon on Thanksgiving Day. No carryouts. Reservations requested by Monday, Nov. 25, by calling (920) 793-5596. Donations accepted.

WAUPACA: A Community Thanksgiving Meal will be held at Faith Community Church, N2541 County K. Serving begins at noon.
