ALLOUEZ — The Compass is seeking donations from readers to provide subscriptions for guests at homeless shelters in the Diocese of Green Bay. A private grant that had funded these subscriptions was not renewed this year and The Compass is asking readers for assistance to continue this outreach ministry.
“Community and connection is important for people experiencing homelessness, and The Compass will provide our guests with the opportunity to connect with their Catholic neighbors right here in Green Bay,” said Alexia Wood, executive director of St. John’s Homeless Shelter in Green Bay. “When someone is on a difficult journey in life, faith-focused reading, like The Compass, can help bring hope and inspiration.”
The goal is to raise $2,170 to cover the cost of 140 one-year subscriptions for 12 homeless shelters to receive 10 copies each, according to Amy Kawula, Compass advertising and marketing manager.
“I invite you to prayerfully consider a gift to help us provide copies of The Compass to homeless shelters in the Diocese of Green Bay,” said Kawula. “Providing spiritual and educational reading materials to those in greatest need is an invitation to an encounter with Jesus which may inspire them to follow him more closely and share his love with those around them. Without your support, we cannot reach the homeless shelters in the Diocese of Green Bay.”
“Once individuals experiencing homelessness have their immediate physical needs met, such as food and shelter, they often are seeking spiritual guidance as well,” said Nic Bur, Father Carr’s Place 2B, Oshkosh. “Having The Compass available to read would be one of many tools to help begin this process. Reading the Compass could be a wonderful opportunity for people to learn about acts of kindness and mercy.”
Readers can send tax deductible donations, payable to The Compass, to: The Compass, Attn: Homeless Shelter Ministry, PO Box 23825, Green Bay, WI 54305-3825 or call (920) 272-8208 to process credit card payment.
