Three complete Discípulos de Cristo certification

ALLOUEZ — Three local Catholics from the Diocese of Green Bay will receive certificates acknowledging their completion of the Discípulos de Cristo Program. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebration liturgy will not be held on its original date. Sr. Martha Patricia Escobar, Hispanic ministry formation coordinator for the diocese, said a Mass and blessing of certified ministers will be held at a later date.

Discípulos de Cristo, a lay formation program for the Hispanic community, was initiated in 2006 to prepare men and women for service in their local parishes. The nine courses of study focus on spirituality, Scripture, theology and pastoral ministry.

Most participants are volunteers in various ministries within their parishes. The educational component of the Discípulos de Cristo Program provides the participants with a foundation for leadership roles. The spiritual component consists of biannual days of reflection, spiritual guidance and the encouragement of their pastoral staff and parish community.

The Discipulos graduates include:

María del Socorro Rivera Calderón is a volunteer in faith formation, lector and extraordinary minster of holy Communion at St. Therese Parish in Appleton, where she has been a member since 2009. She is the mother of one daughter, Vianca Judith.

Elias Bedolla is married to Yolanda Bedolla and they have four daughters: Daniela, Natalie, Abigail and Anabel. Elias is a volunteer usher and belongs to the men’s group of Emaus at St. Therese Parish in Appleton, where he is a longtime member.

Antonio Almodóvar Vélez is a member of SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Green Bay, where he is a volunteer altar server and extraordinary minster of holy Communion. The father of one son, Angel Antonio, Tony has been a member of SS. Peter and Paul Parish since 2014.
