Merry Christmas to all of you! I pray that in your celebration of Christmas this year, each of you may feel renewed by the love God has for you.
Christmas is a season of hope, though I’ll be honest, with everything going on in our world today, it can be tempting to give in to despair. It is easy to wonder if the pandemic or the many other challenges we are facing will ever end. We may even wonder if God has abandoned us.
We must remember that being a Christian does not guarantee a life of ease. In fact, Jesus told us, “In this world, you will have trouble,” so we shouldn’t be surprised by what we are experiencing. Despite the troubles we face, however, Jesus also reminded us to “take courage, for I have conquered the world.”
In times like these, then, it is important to remind ourselves that hope is not a naïve wish that our situation will improve. Hope is a person! Hope is Emmanuel, God with us! Hope is recognizing that the God who loves each of us into existence is walking with us, now and always. This is the hope that we celebrate this Christmas season, a hope that does not disappoint.
May the hope brought by the newborn King bless you and your loved ones this Christmas season and throughout the new year!
