Liturgical readings will move up one week
By Tony Staley
After two weeks of preliminary coverage of Renew 2000 Season
V, our treatment moves up a notch. This week the focus is on
Week One as small groups prepare to begin meeting early next
This season, the weekly materials focus on themes, but also
include readings used at the Sunday liturgy. Because many
Renew groups like to use their weekly gatherings to prepare
for the Gospels they will hear at Mass, they choose to
anticipate the Sunday readings. Other groups like to review
the readings after hearing them at Sunday Mass.
Beginning this week, in order to serve both groups, The
Compass will run the readings a week in advance. To make
that possible, this week's paper includes the readings for
both Oct. 1 and 8.
We know that running the readings a week in advance will
require an adjustment. We suggest that readers either keep
the entire paper a few extra days, or else pull-out the
Renew section and keep it handy. That may be an
inconvenience for some - and for that we apologize - but
nearly four years ago, we promised to serve as a primary
Renew resource for our diocese and this is one way we do it.
By the way, it's not too late to join a Renew group, either as a first-timer or as a returnee. Contact your parish.
