School Sisters mark jubilees
Three sisters served in Green Bay Diocese
On June 16, 84 School Sisters of St. Francis will celebrate milestone anniversaries of service as women religious. A liturgy, dinner and reception will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Center, the community's motherhouse, in Milwaukee.
The following School Sister jubilarians have served in the Diocese of Green Bay:
Sr. Henrica Umhoefer, celebrating 80 years as a School Sister, was born in Menomonee Falls. She lived her religious ministry in education, teaching for 69 years in Nebraska, Colorado, Illinois and Wisconsin. In the Diocese of Green Bay, she taught at St. Mary in Luxemburg (1939-1948 and 1955-1963) and St. Mary in Chilton (1948-1952). She now lives at Sacred Heart Center in Milwaukee.
Sr. Catherine (Ignatio) Holthaus, celebrating 70 years, was born in Beckemeyer, Ill. She lived her religious ministry as a homemaker and teacher, serving in the Diocese of Green Bay at St. Mary School in Chilton (1949-1960), St. Mary School in Stockbridge (1969-1971) and St. Mary Convent in Chilton (1983-1986). She also served in other cities in Wisconsin and in Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota. She now lives at St. Joseph Convent in Campbellsport.
Sr. Mary Rose (Cordelia) Auler is a golden jubilarian. She has lived her religious ministry in education, teaching for 46 years in Wisconsin and Illinois. In the Diocese of Green Bay, she taught at St. Mary School in Stockbridge (1963-1973). She is currently a substitute teacher in Milwaukee.
The School Sisters of St. Francis are an international congregation of more than 1,400 women serving in the United States, Europe, Latin America and India. In the United States, 900 School Sisters strive to make a difference in the lives of the poor, especially women and children, through ministries in education, health care, social and pastoral work, fine arts, and prayer and presence.
