Publicize your parish
Tips given to get stories in The Compass
By Tony Staley
Frequently, we're asked, "How do we get something published in
The Compass?" Occasionally, we hear another variant, "Why doesn't
our news get published in The Compass?"
The answer to the first question is easy: Send us some
information, be it a flyer or a write-up about any event or item
of general interest and we'll run a story or a calendar listing
about it in an upcoming issue. The definition of "general
interest" is simple: Does this have any value or interest to
people beyond this specific parish or group or, to put it another
way, "would I read or care about it if I weren't involved?"
The answer to the second question is often simple too: No
information was sent to The Compass and therefore, we didn't know
about it. Or sometimes, the information was sent, but it arrived
too late to include in the paper.
So here are the general rules: Send information on items of
general interest at least two weeks in advance. Include the name
and phone number of someone who can answer questions about the
event. Send the information to: The Compass, P.O. Box 23825,
Green Bay WI 54305; by e-mail, [email protected]; or by fax, (920) 437-9356.
