Still time to sign up
Nov. 1 deadline for bus trip to see Pope in Toronto
for World Youth Day
Young Catholics have until Nov. 1 to sign-up as part of the group from the Green Bay Diocese taking part in a pilgrimage to World Youth and Young Adult Day July 23-28, 2002, in Toronto.
"This is as close as World Youth Day has been to our diocese," said Tony Pichler, diocesan consultant for Youth Ministry. The bus trip being organized will take 12-14 hours, he said, compared to the 22-hour bus trip to Denver for the 1993 World Youth Day.
World Youth and Youth Adult Day activities will include liturgies, sessions led by cardinals and bishops, spiritual, social and service events, entertainment, an art exhibit with pieces from the Vatican Museum and a candlelight Way of the Cross along Lake Ontario. Potentially, there will be four opportunities to see the pope, Pichler said.
"The structure is there to give people a sense of guidance, but people do have many options," said Pichler.
Cost for the diocesan-sponsored trip is $400, which includes lodging, motorcoach transportation, all events and most meals. Participants will stay with host families or at a parish or school.
The bus will leave Green Bay July 22 and return July 29.
"Some parishes are organizing participants as a group," Pichler said. "It's a tremendous opportunity, so I hope people take advantage of it."
