Diocesan Catholic women aid shelters

By Jackie Walker
Diocesan Council of Catholic Women

Domestic abuse and family violence are often thought of as being only a big city concern. But that is not the case in the Green Bay Diocese where more shelters for women and children have opened in the past several years.

In keeping with the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW) mission statement to support and empower women, the Green Bay Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) sponsored the "Let's Lick Family Violence" project by distributing suckers at parishes the weekend of Oct. 13-14.

A total of $13,488 was raised in the 10 vicariates and 83 participating parishes and from individual donors. Contributions went to a shelter where people from the contributing area would go to for help.

The DCCW thanks all who participated. Because funding for shelters has decreased it was vital to them to be able to continue their much-needed services and to let them know others care.

Anyone interested in the project for next year, including those who did not participate this year, can contact Jackie Walker at (920)434-1057.
