Math-A-Thon supports St. Jude
Students from Two Rivers Catholic Central School recently participated in the school's second annual St. Jude Children's Hospital Math-A-Thon. The program is designed to strengthen basic math skills and provide an opportunity to build character and self esteem through helping others.
The 56 student volunteers in grades kindergarten through eighth gathered pledges and worked on approximately 250 grade appropriate math problems provided by St. Jude's Hospital.
This year, the students raised $2,036, making their two-year total raised for St. Jude to $4,039.
"Cancer kills more children than any other disease and as a school community we are very proud and happy to support St. Jude Children's Hospital in its fight against this and many other childhood diseases," said Allan Brixius, administrator. "The purpose of the hospital is to provide both medical treatment for desperately ill children and research that will permanently wipe out many catastrophic childhood diseases."
