St. John the Baptist offers gifts of hope
Students at St. John the Baptist school in Howard work on a specific gospel-centered value each month of the school year. Self-reliance was the chosen value for December.
As a special advent service project, students in grades six, seven and eight decided to make self-reliance a reality for other families around the world by participating in Heifer International (www.heifer.org).
The students held bake sales and raised approximately $300. Additional donations form parents increased the total to $392.80.
The students applied the funds to purchase a llama, two trios of rabbits, three flocks of chickens, a hive of honeybees and three shares of a goat. Heifer International will educate families on how to care for the animals. The families in turn promise to give one or more offspring to another family.
