Religious leaders ask state for sound and just budget solution
The Wisconsin Catholic Conference last week were signers in a joint letter to Gov. Scott McCallum and the Legislature asking them to produce a budget agreement that fosters the common good and protects the state's most needy residents.
The letter asks the state to find solutions that will fairly distribute the burden of the deficit, protect programs that provide basic necessities to economically vulnerable citizens and maintain the state's tradition of open government by keeping budget deliberations open to everyone.
Other signers of the letter included the Wisconsin Council of Churches, the Wisconsin Jewish Council and the Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin.
