Fifth in a series on stewardship

St. Joseph and Immaculate Conception parishes in Oneida are preparing to welcome a longtime companion as their new parish director - Cynthia Becker - their pastoral associate since 2002.

Becker's ministry and growing sense of stewardship has taken her many interesting places. As a child, Becker said she enjoyed a close relationship with God, although the two of them drifted apart for four years in the 1970s.

After graduating in 1972 from UW Green Bay with a degree in communication and a concentration in analysis-synthesis, she joined a Milwaukee law firm and was engaged to be married. During those years Becker stopped going to church.

In 1976, Becker decided it was time to break off her engagement and make some life decisions. She said she felt lost and confused, so turned to scripture for guidance.   Full story ...
