Dcn. Michael Grzeca of Green Bay began on Sept. 7 his new duties as director of Evangelization and Worship for the Green Bay Diocese. Bp. David Zubik made the appointment.

In his new position, Dcn. Grzeca will oversee a number of programs including worship, spirituality, evangelization, campus ministry, youth and young adult ministry, infant baptism and marriage preparation, Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, and retreat and shrine operations.

Dcn. Grzeca was ordained as a permanent deacon in June 2001 and is a part-time staff member at Resurrection Parish in Green Bay.

"I am pleased to have Dcn. Grzeca on board in this newly created position," Bp. Zubik said. "He has excellent credentials and strong leadership skills. In addition to his professional qualifications, Dcn. Grzeca is a man of strong faith, deep compassion and has a great love for the church."

Dcn. Grzeca has a master's degree in Theological Studies from St. Norbert College. He has served as a parish pastoral council president, has assisted at baptism and confirmation preparation, and has served on several parish committees.

Dcn. Grzeca also has a law degree from Marquette University. He has more than 30 years experience in the legal profession as an attorney and as a circuit court judge. For the past five years, he has been a mediator and arbitrator for various legal and non-legal disputes, which he plans to continue doing on a limited basis.

He and his wife, Linda, have two adult daughters.

Dcn. Grzeca said he looks forward to being the diocesan director of Evangelization and Worship because "it provides an excellent way for us to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people in their everyday lives. I would like to thank Bp. Zubik for his trust and confidence in me. I am looking forward to getting started."

The position was changed as part of a diocesan realignment plan, announced earlier this year, that took effect on July 1.

As director of Evangelization and Worship, Dcn. Grzeca will be assisting diocesan staff in serving 375,000 Catholics in 169 parishes throughout 16 counties: Brown, Calumet, Door, Florence, Forest, Kewaunee, Langlade, Manitowoc, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca, Waushara and Winnebago.
